Your Guide to Chemical Peels: A Fresh Start for Your Skin

Have you noticed your skin looks a little dull, feels uneven, or has dark spots that linger? A chemical peel may help refresh its appearance.

At Alexandra Healing Spa, we believe that caring for your skin starts with good information and a treatment chosen for your individual needs. Understanding the treatment makes it easier to decide whether it belongs in your skincare plan.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel uses a solution to remove outer layers of skin through controlled exfoliation. As the skin heals, it can look smoother and more even.

Peels can help address fine lines, uneven coloring, acne, and certain scars. Results depend on the treatment’s depth, and lighter peels may require several sessions, but peels do have limits. They cannot eliminate deep wrinkles or scars or tighten sagging skin.

Think of a peel as one part of a thoughtful skincare routine, with daily care and sun protection helping support your results.

Why Consider a Seasonal Skin Refresh?

As summer gives way to cooler weather, you may begin noticing lingering discoloration or changes in your skin’s texture. This is a good time to review your routine and discuss treatment options.

Rather than choosing a peel simply because it is “peel season,” consider your skin’s current condition, upcoming travel, outdoor activities, and time available for recovery. Your treatment should fit your life as well as your skin.

Meet This Season’s Featured Peels

Our seasonal guide highlights five professional formulas we use in our spa with different skincare goals.

KRX Brightening Peel: For Dullness and Uneven Tone

This formula combines 40% lactic acid with Centella asiatica and Ceramide NP. This is a brightening option, with ingredients intended to support comfort and skin barrier function.

Also contains: Kojic Acid & Bearberry Extract, which inhibit melanin production to reduce hyperpigmentation and age spots.

Safe for Sensitive Skin: Designed for all skin types, including first-time peel users and higher Fitzpatrick skin scales

It may be worth discussing if you want a fresher, more even-looking complexion. Sensitive skin still needs careful assessment before treatment.

KRX Lazer Peel: For Pigmentation Concerns

Despite its name, this is a peel formula, not a laser procedure. This peel includes glycolic acid, hexylresorcinol, and tranexamic acid, and it treats concerns such as dark spots and melasma.

Target Concerns: Melasma, stubborn hyperpigmentation, sun/age spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and uneven skin texture

Active Blend: Combines exfoliating acids (glycolic, lactic, and citric acids) with powerful whitening actives like tranexamic acid and hexylresorcinol to inhibit melanin production and accelerate cell turnover.

Melasma can be persistent, so plan for multiple treatments for the desired results; your plan should include realistic expectations and ongoing care.

KRX MelaPro Cold Peel: For Uneven Pigmentation

This peel is an oil-based formula containing 10% 4-butylresorcinol (Rucinol), a next-generation melanin inhibitor, along with supporting nutrients like glutathione, squalane, and soothing plant extracts.

Cold Peel Technology: Unlike traditional acid-based peels that rely on low pH trauma or surface burning, this formula works through contact time (5 to 15 minutes) and tyrosinase inhibition.

Typically, you don't experience visible peeling. Even so, minimal flaking doesn't guarantee irritation or a shorter recovery time.

Safe for sensitive skin and higher Fitzpatrick skin types (III–VI) that usually cannot tolerate aggressive heating peels.

KRX Clear Peel: For Breakout-Prone Skin

Featuring salicylic acid and green tea-derived EGCG, this formula targets congestion and acne-prone skin.

It includes a blend of 10% mandelic acid, 15% malic acid, and 2% salicylic acid (at a pH of around 2.9 to 3.0).

Soothing Extracts: Infused with green tea extract, chamomile, and cucumber to reduce redness and inflammation

For someone exploring peels for the first time, it's an option to discuss during a skin assessment. The appropriate starting treatment depends on your skin, current products, and medical history.

Improves Texture: Refines rough skin texture and promotes gentle cell turnover without heavy shedding or physical peeling

P.FECTA Illumin Peel: For Texture and Brightness

This two-phase formula pairs 35% TCA with a multi-acid blend, Bixa orellana seed, and squalane. This peel works great for skin types with concerns involving acne, scarring, and uneven pigmentation, with limited visible peeling.

Instant Radiance: Improves overall skin tone, clarity, and brightness.

Oil Film Protection: Ingredients like Squalane and Bixa Orellana seed create a soothing barrier that stabilizes the acids, minimizes irritation, and cushions the skin during the procedure.

Gentle Experience: Delivers resurfacing benefits similar to stronger chemical peels but avoids intense pain, heavy flaking, and recovery downtime.

Since it contains TCA, a professional evaluation and precise application are important. If you’re getting ready for a wedding or other special event, give your skin time to show how it reacts instead of using a new peel right before the occasion.

KrX Green Sea Peel

The Green Sea Peel utilizes innovative spicule technology to visibly refine skin texture and promote a more uniform, radiant tone. Paired with a hydrating activator, this professional-grade service provides an intensive moisture boost that enhances the look of skin firmness and clarity for a smooth, revitalized appearance.

Spicule Mechanism: Millions of microscopic needle-like silica or calcium carbonate spicules from algae and sea sponges are massaged into the skin, and it gets spicy.

Micro-channeling: These tiny structures create temporary micro-channels in the epidermis, triggering a mechanical healing response, boosting collagen, and enhancing cellular turnover without chemical acids.

  • Sensations: Expect a strong prickly, stinging, or "sandy" feeling during application that can linger for up to 72 hours, especially when you press on your face or lie down.

  • Downtime: Mild to moderate flaking and peeling typically occur around days 3 to 5, revealing a fresh glow by day 6 or 7.

  • Restrictions: Do not wash your face for the first 24 hours, avoid heat or heavy sweating for 48 hours, skip active exfoliants or retinoids, and wear broad-spectrum SPF daily.

What About Safety and Recovery?

Peels can cause redness, swelling, skin color changes, infection, and, rarely, scarring. Share your medications, recent treatments, history of cold sores, and tendency to scar before booking. If you are pregnant, discuss treatment with your healthcare professional rather than relying on a product’s “pregnancy-safe” description.

Darker skin tones can receive peels, but choosing a practitioner experienced with your skin tone is especially important because pigment complications can occur. Always consult a licensed expert before your first appointment. In most cases, you must use a pigment inhibitor at least 2 weeks before your first peel session. Here’s an example of a pigment inhibitor you can purchase before your session!

Give Your Skin Gentle Care Afterward

Aftercare is part of the treatment. Follow the instructions provided for your specific peel, including cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection, and when to restart your usual products.

Avoid picking or rubbing peeling skin. We emphasize that proper aftercare and sun protection help reduce complications and maintain results. Contact your treating professional if you experience burning, itching, or swelling.
